We are delighted to announce that Hinterland was awarded the Judges’ Choice Award in the inaugural Sunday Herald Scottish Culture Awards 2016.

The awards recognised the very best of Scottish culture, showcasing the talent of Scottish artists and the quality of cultural events in Scotland. The judging panel included Professor Janice Kirkpatrick, Alan Bissett, Roddy Woomble, Pauline Miller Judd, Ruth Wishart, Neil Mackay and David Hayman.

The Judges’ Choice Award acknowledged a cultural event, artist or performance which the judges felt created “that feeling that you are in exactly the right place at the right time … when the stars collide and you know that the play, or dance performance, or gig is something truly exceptional”. Unable to choose just one winner, the judges decided to award both Hinterland and synth pop band CHVRCHES.

It is a great honour to achieve this award in the inaugural year of the Scottish Culture Awards, alongside the other finalists and winners who represent the huge breadth of creative talent in Scotland.
